Protects, softens and nourishes

If you've ever tried dry shaving, we probably don't need to convince you for a long time that it's wise to always use a foam or cream intended for this when shaving... After shaving "without anything", pimples often pop up on the skin, the skin remains irritated, dry, and is much more susceptible to injury and hair grows back more easily. Different shaving products work great against all this. They nourish the skin, hydrate it and create a protective layer between the skin and the razor. In addition, the hairs are raised, so you can then stick them closer to the skin and stay smooth for a longer time. Which is a strong enough reason to make your own homemade shaving product!

Homemade shaving cream

The basis of shaving cream is always a combination of oils, soap and water. We were also based on that. And we added baking soda, which prevents skin irritation, and honey (or aloe vera gel). This, in turn, ensures the necessary nutrition and softness.

What is needed for shaving cream?

- 1 cup of shea butter

- 3 tablespoons of coconut oil

- 2 tablespoons of castile soap

- 1 spoon of vegetable glycerin

- 1 tablespoon of honey or aloe vera gel (if you want a cream without animal products)

- 2 teaspoons of soda

- A few drops of grapefruit seed extract or vitamin E (works as a preservative)

How to do it?

First, in a water bath or in the microwave if you are lazy like me :), let the shea butter soften. It is enough that it is soft, we don't want it to be completely liquid. Give it about 40 seconds in the microwave, a little longer in the water bath. (And if you are preparing the cream in the hot summer, you can probably skip this step completely). Next, whisk the allowed coconut oil, glycerin and castile soap in a bowl. Then slowly pour in the shea butter and keep stirring with a whisk. Beat for about a minute, then gradually add honey (aloe vera gel) and baking soda. Finally, add grapefruit seed extract (vitamin E) and mix well. When the product is creamy like yogurt or mayonnaise, we are done. Transfer the cream to a glass and let it rest at room temperature for 24 hours. Store in a resealable container, such as this jar with an aluminum cap. Shaving cream can last up to 3 months at room temperature.

TIP: When showering or bathing, leave the cream on the edge of the bath, so that it softens a little with the warm steam around it. To prevent bacteria from getting into the cream, it is better to use a spoon to scoop it up or to dry your hands before use.

And if you'd rather pull hair than shave, try depilation with sugar paste, for example.
